Salem is a beautiful and historic seaport, but is best known for the infamous witch trials hysteria. Famous residents include Nathaniel Bowditch (author of the American Practical Navigator), Josias Derby (the first American millionaire), Nathaniel Hawthorne and the artist Frank Benson.
